A textured mosaic of a Walrus. This mosaic was created for an exhibition entitled "Beyond Boundaries" in Sizergh gallery and cafe, 2024. This mosaic was inspired by media headlines about Thor and Wally, two Walruses who visited the UK shores in 2021 and 2022/23. Thor became the star guest for New Years Eve 2022 in Scarborough, Yorkshire leading to the town cancelling their firework display due to concern of causing unnecessary distress to the animal. Walruses usually keep to the waters around the Artic circle.
The mosaic is made of hand cut, foraged rock, filati glass and shells. The back ground is hand coloured self levelling cement. The frame is hand cut lakeland slate.
The mosaic has an integral d ring hook to hang from a regular picture hook but requires a solid wall or you might like to purchase an additional table top easel to display on a mantlepiece or table.
The mosaic is hand made, one of a kind, made by the artist. The mosaic frame is not a perfect square or rectangle, its deliberately uneven as I want the mosaics to resemble the unique ,varied, slate stone walls of the Lake District.
